Advanced job management techniques

This video will give you an idea of what can be achieved using the Autowork Online garage management system’s advanced job management features. The system includes many facilities which make complex jobs easy to manage, boosting efficiency and profits.

The new job groupings feature allows all the labour tasks and parts associated with a particular task to be grouped on the job. This adds flexibility, and makes the management of larger, more complex jobs much easier.

Today we’re going to be looking at some of Autowork’s more advanced job management features, including the Job Grouping feature. This allows parts and labour to be organised into Job Groups. For example a job to fit new brake pads would include both the parts and the labour.

As you can see, we’ve got the basis of a job here. The customer has asked to have a full service performed, and he’s also been advised that the front brakes are worn, and may need replacing soon. So we’re going to start building the job to perform these two steps.

Firstly, we’ll add a job for the service, so we’ll go to Add Job, and then Service. The Service Schedule screen will automatically calculate the amount of labour time required, and also add the parts. So I’m going to do the 25,000 mile service, and I’m also going to choose to select parts from the catalogue. I’m going to add some engine oil, a cabin filter, and an air filter.

As you can see, a new job group called “service” has been created, this includes both the labour for the service and the parts. We’re going to add a second job for the brakes, so we’ll go to Add Job, and then Repair Times.

The Repair Times database allows you to pick from a selection of jobs and will automatically add the right amount of labour, and will also allow you to select parts. So we’re going to choose Brake System, and then Brake pads, and then finally, renew brake pads. We’re going to choose the Select Parts option again to add parts from the catalogue, and we’re going to add a brake pad set to the job.

As you can see again, another job grouping called Brake Pads has been created, this includes the labour and the parts.

Now I’m going to show you some advanced techniques for organising job groupings. Firstly, you’re able to expand or minimise the job groups. This makes it much easier to organise large jobs, as elements can be expanded or hidden. To this simply click the Minimise button, and click the plus button to make it larger again.

it’s also possible to switch the order of the job groupings within the job card. All you need to do to do this is click the Up or Down arrows against the job grouping.

It’s also possible to add extra items to an existing job group. In this example, the customer has asked to have a wiper blade fitted as part of the service. To do this, simply click the plus button against the service job group. You’ll get a pop up menu similar to when the Add Job button was clicked, from here, we’re going to choose Quick Parts and then choose to add a wiper blade. The wiper blade has now been added to the service job group.

It’s also possible to delete lines from a job group, say if the customer came back in at a later date and decided that they did not want the wiper blade fitting any more. All you’d need to do is simply click the X against it, and the line will be deleted.
