MAM’s Autowork Online cuts administration costs and recoups lost man hours at family-owned garage

Family-owned Ferris Garage has praised MAM Software’s Autowork Online application for enabling it to better manage its operations and provide an even higher level of customer service.

Established in 1954, the Truro-based independent garage offers a range of services, including MOTs, sales and car repairs. Managing director Tim Ferris said it was a “natural progression” to move to garage management software such as Autowork Online, which gives him a comprehensive overview of his business.

Autowork Online is a web-based application designed to simplify and manage the running of a busy workshop or garage. It is accessed via an internet browser and data is stored on high-security servers so it can be instantly retrieved.

“It’s difficult to pinpoint a single feature of Autowork Online that’s most valuable to us, as it is so embedded in our operations,” said Tim Ferris.

“The diary feature is essential; it enables me to manage my own workload and that of my staff. I can see all the jobs at once and know what is happening at all times,” he continued.

“The ability to transfer data to Sage is also really important, as is the ability to keep track of stock and labour, not least because I have four mechanics whose schedules I need to manage.”

Tim estimates that Autowork Online saves his business as much as £25,000 per year as he’s able to carry out administrative tasks himself. He has also recouped a considerable amount of man hours since using MAM’s software.

“Autowork Online is connected directly to our parts supplier, which reduces the amount of time I spend on the phone. I don’t have to speak to anyone to order a part – I can go online and see pricing and availability information before placing an order,” noted Tim.

He also acknowledged that time saved on the phone can be invested in other areas of the business, namely making sure customers receive the level of service they deserve.

“The system allows us to send service and annual MOT reminders, as well as text messages when vehicles are ready to be collected. This is a more convenient method of communication for both the garage and our customers,” Tim commented.

“The quotes we provide are also more accurate, so customers have a better idea of what they will be paying when they book a repair or service.”

“I don’t have any paperwork now, or even a diary. Autowork Online enables me to see what’s going on at a glance throughout the day,” he added.

“Our software is designed to make life easier for garages, and we’re delighted to hear that Autowork Online is making such a difference to Tim and his team,” commented Mark Kendall, sales director at MAM Software.

“By automating and organising day-to-day tasks, businesses like Ferris Garage can focus their attention on other areas of their operations. Integration with the Autocat+ electronic catalogue also makes it easier to order parts online from preferred suppliers, which is another valuable feature for many of our customers.”
